Researchers working on a self-sustaining cellphone

Arman Ahnood, a researcher at the London Center for Nanotechnology, has developed a prototype that uses solar cells to capture wasted energy from OLED screens. The prototype relies on an array of solar cells behind the phones display and as of right now they are only able to generate around five milliwatts of power from a 3.7 inch screen. Although this is far from being sustainable, this holds promise that one day phones will have a battery life similar to that of current e-reader devices.
