Apple’s iBooks Author is at the forefront of the digital textbook industry. Certain schools are receiving a strong emphasis and influence from the Obama administration in making the shift from physical to digital textbooks over the course of the next five years. The government has shifted its resource spending to tablet-based digital textbook editions. The government supports this transition but do the people do? Have we forgotten about the digital divide? There are still plenty of people that are not technology based to use this system. What about costs? The cost of the iPad is rather high. In the coming five years, does the government plan to support schools/students with iPads in order to make this shift to digital textbooks? Apple is currently the leading innovator for the industry, but we have yet to see other companies and organizations combat it with their own version of iBooks. Five years starts now.
