AT&T May Try Billing App Makers

AT&T is considering a new system in which mobile app developers and publishers would pay for the wireless bandwidth associated with using the apps and downloading content.
John Donovan, the executive responsible for AT&T’s network and technology, explained the carrier’s interest in the service in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

This is a new technique in an attempt to regain profits from intensified data usage on smartphones. Instead of trying to make the users pay, which has already been done through the elimination of unlimited data plans, AT&T hopes this strategy will bring in revenue from the untapped source of service providers.
