Advances in haptic feedback on smartphone screens

This year at Mobile World Congress, two companies have introduced functional smartphone prototypes that can simulate the sensation of interacting with items that are displayed on screen. These companies, Senseg and Immersion, demoed products that made users feel like they were “shaking maracas” or “riding a roller coaster” through accurate vibrations throughout the device.

Although this technology can be considered only for entertainment purposes right now, in the future it can be developed for other areas such as “a physical cue to something in a long list of data. Imagine, for example, scrolling though email and feeling a physical bump when you get to a message from your spouse or boss.”
