Mobile Data Service Fees Help Bolster Profit at Verizon

According to this article in the New York Times, Verizon reported that it added 734,000 subscribers in the first quarter, 16 percent fewer than a year ago. Despite this loss, it still posted a profit of $1.7 billion for the quarter, which can be explained by additional usage fees that customers pay to run data on their smartphones and tablets.
