Apple is currently developing a music service that is similar to Pandora and Spotify. The music service, which has yet to be named, will work on all existing Apple products. The WSJ article suggests that this service may be announced at Apple’s conference nest Wednesday, September 12th. Apple also plans on working with record companies on licensing deals, instead of paying government-set rates like Pandora.
Apple is negotiating for its own licensing deals with record companies, these people said, because it wants to offer users a greater degree of interactivity than allowed by so-called compulsory licenses used by Pandora and other webcasters.
