Google forces Acer to stop support for Alibaba

On Thursday afternoon, Acer was to unveil a new smartphone that would run on Aliyun an open source operating system created by Alibaba. Right before the big announcement Google pressured Acer by threatening to cancel Acer’s license to use Android for its other phones.

In the Chinese market, the Acer phone called CloudMobile A800 would not be the first to use the Aliyun OS. Two other companies were already using the OS on their own phones as a cheap inexpensive smartphone for the local market. The CloudMobile A800 would not be an entry-level phone, instead it was to be announced as the most expensive phone in the country boasting a slimmer and lighter model than the iphone 4S.
