NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — In the crowded mobile payments space, a major player is about to make a long-awaited debut.
Isis, a mobile commerce network founded by three of the nation’s biggest wireless carriers — Verizon Wireless (VZ, Fortune 500), AT&T (T,Fortune 500) and T-Mobile — will launch in its first two cities, Austin and Salt Lake City, on Monday, October 22. It’s partnering up with major retailers including Foot Locker (FL, Fortune 500), 7-Eleven,McDonald’s (MCD, Fortune 500) and Sports Authority. Isis has serious firepower on its side: In addition to the wireless Goliaths, its backers include Chase (JPM,Fortune 500), American Express(AXP, Fortune 500) and Capital One (COF, Fortune 500), which plan to make their credit and debit cards available for use with Isis’ mobile wallet app.
What smartphones can you actually use Isis on? That’s the catch — the company isn’t saying yet.
