In Nigeria, a survey by the World Health Organization (WHO) found that over 64% of imported malaria drugs were counterfeits. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control is attempting to counter this growing problem by offering an SMS authentication service. Authentic anti-malaria drugs will come with a scratch-and-text label. Users can scratch off part of the label to reveal a 10-digit authentication code. Texting this 10-digit code will return a response stating whether or not the drugs are real.
