Google Glass competitor ships 50K devices, takes Intel investment, hints at Apple connection | VentureBeat

Recon is a company that has just shipped about 50,000 units of its new wearable computer technology which directly competes with Google Glass. These glasses are made for professionals and athletes and are durable. They display heartrate, distance, and other stats that athletes supposedly care about. These glasses pack a dual core 1GHz processor, Wifi, bluetooth, an HD camera, an HD display, and ANT+ for device communication. They cost $599 and to celebrate a partnership with Intel they are $100 off. Google Glass only goes to “Glass Explorers” right now and is a steeper price of $1,500. Early next year the company expects to release a new version as the current version is geared toward skiers.
