New Smartphone Tech To Alert Pedestrians: ‘You’re About To Be Hit By a Car’

The ‘V2P’ (Vehicle-to-Pedestrian) tech, by Honda, uses a smartphone’s GPS and dedicated short range communications (DSRC) to warn drivers when a pedestrian steps into traffic. The driver sees a dashboard message warning of an approaching pedestrian, while the pedestrian gets an alert on their phone telling them there’s a DSRC-equipped car coming, which would be useful if their eyes were glued to the screen and not the road.
