Twitter to be available on mobile phones without Internet

Twitter is tying up with a Singapore-based startup to make it’s messaging service available to users in emerging markets whose users primarily have entry-level mobile phones that typically cannot access the Internet. All users that don’t have Interenet access need to do to access Twitter is simply dial a simple code to get a feed of the popular trending topics on Twitter. This is huge specially for company’s like Utopia Fonetwish service.  U2opia Mobile, will launch its Twitter service come the first quarter of next year. This will help more than 11 millipon of Utopia users which already access Facebook and Google Talk on their mobiles without data connection.

This move allows mobile users in the poorer parts of the world to have mobile interaction with Twitter and get an experience that us Americans don’t even have to think about if we have data on our mobile devices. The difference between U2opia’s Twitter feed and an average American Twitter feed will be what is shown on a U2opia user’s feed will be localized to their location. In a sense Twitter may be the newest news circular or advertising means for these countries.
