i thought this was pretty cool. Another open source phone os that could potentially give Android a run for its money. although it seems closely related to android, being based off of linux, it will get some attention but I doubt it can dethrone android.
The company that is known for making processors to power phones like HTC one and some Samsung Galaxy phones are now launching Smartwatches
Bold move by Samsung to attempt to bring back flip phones. But this isnt any ordinary flip phone from 2005. It has a snapdragon 800 processor-the same processor that’s in the Nexus 5- and dual WVGA displays. A pretty powerful flip phone if you ask me. The price? $1600. No thanks.
for the android users, Google is giving PlayStore credit to those who complete some surveys. A good way to keep android users happy by giving PlayStore credit for short surveys.
HTC phones like the HTC One and the HTC One Max are getting access to alot more Google Drive storage than the regular android users through a partnership between Google and HTC
Motorola has just announced Project Ara, where they will be working with Phonebloks, to make the first completely customizable modular phone.
This is pretty good news for those of you that are leaving your Iphones and converting to Android, specifically the newly released MotoX. This phone has a feature that lets you transfer all of your contacts and calendar information from your Iphone, to the MotoX effortlessly.
So over the past few weeks, there have been a lot of leaks about the Nexus 5. Yesterday Google put up the Nexus 5 on the Google PlayStore but immediately took it down. This can only mean that its release, as well as the official announcement of Android 4.4 KitKat is around the corner. Personally I’m excited for this phone and cannot wait to get my hands on this beauty. The rumored date for announcement/release is October 28th.
Now while this is more related to gaming, its still an android os based device, running android 4.2, the Archos Gamepad 2 can also be used as a regular tablet. In a sense that puts this gamepad/tablet into competition with gaming handhelds like the PSvita and into tablet competition with the Nexus 7 or ipad.
So the Iphone wont be the only phone out with a fingerprint scanner this year. HTC is adding this feature to one of its most popular and highest selling phones this year and with the new “HTC one Max” model, maybe this “feature” will net them even more sales.
Looks like HTC just might be doing worse than Blackberry. If they have another quarter with losses like this, they may have to look for another Chief exec and maybe even pull some Blackberry like moves with their devices. Even with the very popular Android os being distributed on their devices, its still not enough for HTC to make a big enough profit before thinking about selling.
Smart move on Blackberry’s part getting their products in usage by agencies in NATO countries. Even though using Blackberry devices for everyday usage sounds crazy for us Android and ios users, it just may be the most secure and successful business phone ever.
Someone has got Apple’s IMessage to work on android, but there are suspicions about security. I think this person put this up to maybe try to compete with the upcoming BBM release on android and iphone. But the security issue would be a major reason why no one would download it. That and because its not officially from google
Google is planning to allow videos to be temporarily downloaded to the device to watch later. A good idea in my opinion but im sure someone will exploit this and we will be able to download and save youtube videos to our phones. Potentially bad news for artists that promote their music solely through youtube
Spotify and Twitter team up where you can follow and stream music from big name artists based off of what is trending. You can make playlists and search for artists from every genre and it doesn’t even require a premium membership. My opinion of this app is..”meh”. Some people dont want to listen to the kind of music other people are listening to. Sure its a good way to find undiscovered talent and new music in different genres but who really uses twitter to find new music. I think this app/merger wasnt fully thought out. Especially with music streaming services like Grooveshark, Pandora, This Is My Jam, and Google Play. There was really no need to integrate social media apps with music.
I ran into this video while surfing the web and I thought it was a pretty cool concept.
This guy (Dave Hakkens) wants to make phones last longer by using different parts of phones attachable/detachable like the camera, battery, hdd, etc. Its a very interesting way of viewing our usage of phones because essentially, he’s right. We run through phones so quickly because we want the next best thing in the mobile community, bragging about how many gigs or megapixels a smart phone has. Now being realistic, I doubt any companies will get behind this, but as far as this concept of mobile phone usage and using new, different parts instead of buying a completely new phone would be an interesting topic to talk about in class.
