Wireless Charging Easier Than Ever

Wireless Charging Goes Further Into Tablets, Cars, the Home.

Sure, the technology behind placing your phone on a wired mat after wrapping it in a case that allows it to be charged wirelessly has been around for a few years. However, the folks at Fulton Innovation have now taken it a step further. They have developed a technology that allows a device to be charged wirelessly without physically touching the charging surface. This is a huge step in convenience for the mobile industry. Imagine placing a bag down on a table or sitting on the table with your phone in your pocket and it immediately starts charging. In the near future, mobile developers will most likely start to build wireless charging receivers into their devices, and wireless chargers will become more widely available.

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Jailbreak On the Way

Jailbreak for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S Imminent.

Planetbeing, the hacker who helped jailbreak the original iPhone 4, is in the final stages of developing a jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Jailbreaking is the equivalent of rooting an Android device and unlocks technology that Apple would rather their users not have, such as downloading and installing third party apps that aren’t available in the Apple AppStore, free wifi tethering, unlocking so the phone can be used on other carriers, and much more. Jailbreaking technically voids the warranty on an Apple device. However, the latest iOS firmware can be reinstalled easily and Apple Store geniuses are none the wiser.

Mobile app recommendation startup Apptap raises $4 million dollars

Apptap is a service designed to help mobile app developers reach a larger audience by analyzing what users are reading and searching for online and  then recommending apps that the user would most likely find interesting. Apptap helps developers get their apps more exposure in the ever crowded app stores. With this new funding, Apptap will hopefully be able to expand their already impressive average of 150 million app recommendations a month and help upstart developers make a name for themselves.

Microsoft inks patent agreement deal with LG, now makes money on 70% of Android devices

Microsoft inks patent agreement deal with LG, now makes money on 70% of Android devices | Android and Me.

Microsoft makes money off of 70% of Android Devices sold, more money than Microsoft makes off of its own Windows Phone 7 platform. This is interesting because Microsoft’s own mobile OS, although only a small percent of the market share, is a director competitor of Android. Microsoft would effectively lose money if they did something to hinder Android’s sales, so instead they are capitalizing off of their competitor’s success.

The freshly announced partnership between Intel and Motorola will surely mean that we will see Intel chips featured in many up and coming Motorola devices. More Intel chips in the mobile market is great for competition  and will help to drive the price down for consumers. Not only that, Intel’s chips will be faster than Nvidia’s latest Tegra 3 chips; always a plus for us mobile enthusiasts with a need for speed.

The Next Big Thing: Android in the home, and in the fridge

The Next Big Thing: Android in the home, and in the fridge

In the near future, the Smartphone will become the gateway to other devices and appliances in the home. They will all work together and permit access to any kind of information you want anywhere in the house. You can already control the light system within your house via Smartphones. Google’s strategy is to use Android to shift the focus from mobile devices to a much more inclusive, practical and efficient function that shares information and intellect much like peer-to-peer devices do already. What Google faces now is the vast amount of differences in makes and models of devices.

Texting profits at risk as consumers look elsewhere

Texting profits at risk as consumers look elsewhere

U.S.mobile operators are realizing that consumers are finding cheaper ways of communication. Instead of using SMS text messaging, consumers are taking advantage of low-priced alternatives such as iMessenger, Blackberry Messenger and Facebook’s mobile messaging services. Because of this AT&T and Verizon Wireless have instituted higher service fees for text messaging.

Android Market hits 400,000 active app milestone

Back in October, Google was said to have had 500,000 app submissions, though only 315,000 actually sat in the Android Market itself. The total number is continuously being pared back as rogue apps, malware and copyright-infringing titles are removed.
